One Day Skill Development Programme for Students, on “VCR Engine - Performance and Emission testing”, on 28 Aug 2019

The Mechanical Engineering Department of Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College Salem organized a one day skill development programme for students on “VCR Engine - Performance and Emission testing” on 28.08.19 at 10.00 am in the seminar hall and the training took place at BOSCH Training centre and in Thermal Lab. Principal Dr. A.NAGAPPAN inaugurated the skill development program by lighting of the lamp where the Dr. C.S.Ramanigopal HOD Management studies, HOD Mech Prof.N.Rajan and faculty members were present. The Principal highlighted the necessity to train the students in various skill development programes to improve their employability skills and also to become an entrepreneur. Resource persons Prof. P.Sellamuthu , Prof. R.Anandan and Prof. T.Raja of mechanical department trained 79 participants from Knowledge Institute of Technology, Mahendra Institute of Technology, Annapoorana Engineering College and Rajaji polytechnic College along with mechanical and Automobile Engineering students of our college by providing hands on experience in VCR Engine performance and emission testing.

Firstly, there was a power point presentation about need of VCR engine , Global warming and emission problems and Government emission norms , importance to adopt pollution norms from BS4 to BS6.

Then all the students have been grouped into 2 batches and they were initially given demonstration on VCR engine , smoke meter and five gas analyzer. Then after demonstration the students have carried out the experiments on VCR engine and took reading for combustion, performance analysis by using eCAS (Engine Combustion Analysis Software) and simultaneously students have done tests on density and opacity of exhaust gas coming from the engine by using smoke meter and five gas analyzer. From this skill development training program the students got hands on experience to work in VCR engine, smoke meter and five gas analyzer under the guidance of the resource persons. From this program students understood the importance to control the emissions from SI and CI engines. It will help them to find solution to avoid global worming and other emission in future.

Principal distributed the certificates to all the participants during the valedictory function in the presence of Prof. N. Rajan HOD Mechanical Engineering and. Prof. P.Sellamuthu proposed the vote of thanks.
