Innovation Day Celebrations, on 15 Oct 2019

On the eve of the birth anniversary of visionary and well acclaimed proponent of Innovative India, former President, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and to recognize, facilitate and felicitate the innovations and best practices in the institution and its surroundings, Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Salem celebrated 15 Oct 2019 as Innovation Day.

The programme commenced at 11.00 AM by paying homage to the visionary by University Officials, Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Principal and other invited staff and specially invited students of other schools. The dignitaries and audience were welcomed by Dr. C S Ramanigopal, Head Mnagement Studies. University (VMRFDU) Officials Dr. P S Manoharan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. P Gnanasekar, Director IQAC and Mr. N Ramasamy, Director VMRFDU applauded the institution’s achievements on innovation and entrepreneurship and suggested students to learn from the experience of the visionary Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Dr. P S Manoharan delivered Presidential address.

Dr. A Nagappan, Principal of the institution presented a brief report on innovative projects and activities, on innovation and entrepreneurship in the institution and the infrastructural support with mentorship provided to various Startups through Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Business Incubator.

Mr. S B Vivehanandan, alumni of the institution and founder of Rajaganapathy Agrobase Polymers, Puducherry explained about his company and journey of his entrepreneurship which has made him to think innovatively to produce decomposable Agrobase products to get rid of the menace of single use plastic.

Mr. M Karrupaiah, Chief Guest of the function, Innovator and Managing Director, Process Ekuipment Engineers, Coimbatore had a detailed talk with the students and shared his experiences in becoming an entrepreneur. He also advised all students to practice the four mantras described by the visionary for getting success in life. He distributed Commendation Certificates and Gifts to the faculty who have been awarded by various State and Central agencies in research.

The mentors and the team of students of Indian Institute of Science certified four innovative funded projects – Intelligent Helmet, Smart Vision System for Visually Impaired People, Extraction of valuable bio molecules from food waste, Development of Air-conditioning and Refrigeration using exhaust heat from Car were felicitated for their remarkable achievements. Apart from project exhibition, various events like Slogan Contest, Essay writing, Debate, Poster Competition, Case Studies and Article Presentation on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Culture in the Institution were organized. Winners of the events were felicitated with certificates and prizes.

A short video on autobiography of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was played for experiential learning and creating interest in becoming innovator and entrepreneur. Total 392 Students from Senthil Public School, Salem, Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School Gugai Salem, Government Higher Secondary School, Veerapandi Salem, Vinayaka Vidyalaya Matric Higher Secondary School Fairlands, Salem and A R Matriculation Higher Secondary School Salem were specially invited for their participation in Innovative Project Exhibition certified by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) – MSME Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru. The school students were very much participative and have shown their exemplary interest in various projects which have encouraged and motivated them to become an entrepreneur. The students showed their keen interest in knowing about the processes, projects and equipments available in Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Business Incubator.

The programme concluded at 03.30 PM and the students were asked for their feedbacks and later dropped to their respective schools with special thanks from management and Principal of this institution.
