Alumni Meet, on 21 Dec 2019

Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College Salem organized the Annual “ALUMNI MEET” on 21.12.2019 in Annapoorna Auditorium. The program activities commenced at 10.30 A.M. after arrival of Chief Guest and other Guest of Honours.

Mrs. Annapoorani Shanmuga Sundaram, Madam Founder Chancellor Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation Deemed University, Chief Guest of the function inaugurated the Alumni Meet by lighting the kuthuvilakku in the presence of Madam Arunadevi Chandrasekar, Director, Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College, Karaikkal, Mr. Chandrasekar, Vice - President VMRFDU, Mr. Balu subramaniam, Manager, VMRFDU, Dr. P. Gnanasekar, Director, IQAC VMRFDU and Dr.R. Shanmuga Sundram, Dy. Director, Academic VMRFDU, Dr. A Nagappan, Principal and Prof. P K Kumaresan, Vice Principal - Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College Salem. Mr. J. Subramanian, President - Alumni Association welcomed the gathering.

Principal Dr. A. Nagappan delivered the presidential address and presented a brief overview of the institution, achievements over the years from 1987 to 2019 in terms of infrastructural development, patents filed and awarded, innovative projects awarded by MSME Centre of Excellence, Indian Institute if Science, Bengaluru, establishment of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Business Incubator, participation in various Govt. initiated schemes like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Swacchta Abhiyan, Chaatra Vishwakarma Awards, Utkrist Sansthan Award, Startups, Journal publications by faculty, thrust areas of research etc.

Mr. Ganesh S, alumnus of 1995-1999 batch Mechanical Engineering, presently as General Manager, Ford India Limited informed the gathering of alumni and students about the need and role of Alumni Association in forming a network between Students, Management, Industry and academia and to create a win-win situation for all stakeholders.

Mrs. Aruna Devi, alumna of 1994-98 batch Computer Science and Engineering, presently as Director, Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College, Karaikkal congratulated the organizers for conducting the event for remembering old memories and time spent in the institution. She shared some of her experiences and memories of yester years during her student days. She contributed Rs. 25000/- for Alumni Association and Rs. 25000/- for Research and Development of the institution.

Captain B.R.Ramesh, alumnus of 1988-1992 batch Mechanical Engineering, presently as Director - Missile Quality Assurance Agency, India Navy, Coimbatore cited his own example that even if one is not very good in academics, one can get success through his/her hard work and consistent effort. He shared his memories about his college days when he was Sports Captain of his team.

Mr. Sethuraman R, alumnus of 1989-1993 batch Mechanical Engineering, presently as CEO Symprio, USA said that though there was a slight set back academically while studying, his hardwork proved worthy and made him to climb stairs of success despite of failures also in between. He told that hard work is the key to success in life.

Dr. Muthukumar P, alumnus of 1992-1996 batch, Mechanical Engineering, presently as Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, advised the students to be sincere in their academics and work hard to achieve laurels in life. He also extended his help to motivate the students academically whenever needed.

Wing Commander Gunasekaran, alumnus of 1994-1998 batch, Electronics and Communication Engineering, presently as Commanding Officer, 3 Tamil Nadu Air NCC Trichy, Indian Air Force shared his experiences and memories in the college. He admired NCC Officer and Cadets and gave some tips to clear various armed forces recruitment exams. He expressed desire to extend training to the students aspiring to become Officers in Indian Air Force. He was invited as Guest of Speaker by All India Radio Madurai Station on 30 Nov 2019 to talk to parents and students regarding careers in Indian Armed Forces and especially in Indian Air Force.

Wing Commander K Jayandhan, alumnus of 1997-2001 batch, Computer science and Engineering, presently as Commanding Officer, 5 Tamil Nadu Air NCC Salem, Indian Air Force explained about opportunities available in armed forces. He also explained about special reservations for NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders in Combined Defence Services and such cadets are directly appearing Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews bypassing the written examination which non - NCC students have to clear compulsorily before interview by SSB.

Mr. A Selvakumar alumnus of 1989-1993 batch, Computer science and Engineering, presently as Municipal Judge at Pochampally, Krishnagiri explained that though basically he was trained as an engineer but due to his family circumstances and his inclination towards administration, he switched his career as a judge in the judicial department. He cited his own experience about flexibility in ones career.

Mrs.S.Srividhya kamakshi alumna of 1988-1992 batch, Electronics and Communication Engineering, presently as Senior Programme Manager, Cisco Systems India, Bangalore shared her nostalgic memories in the college days and encouraged the students to study well for their better future.

Dr.R.S.Shanmuga Sundaram alumnus of 1992-1996 batch, Electronics and Communication Engineering presently as Deputy Director, Academic VMRFDU donated 39 text books for the benefits of current students studying in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in our institution.

On completion of a small cultural programme by students, everybody dispersed for lunch and assembled back in auditorium for discussion among alumni regarding activities in the year 2020 and opened Alumni Office. The alumni were taken for campus tour and to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Business Incubator to see innovative projects of students and faculties. In memory of the alumni meet, the alumni also participated in tree plantation program in the campus.

The program concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. J. Subramanian, President - Alumni Association.
