30 years is a milestone in the annals of a department. The Department of Science and Humanities of Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College was started in the year 1987. The Department completes its 30 years of yeomen service during 2016-2017 and it is continued till date. It has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. It is one of the active Departments of the Deemed to be University and it offers PG, M.Phil., and Ph.D., programmes in Science and Humanities. It is commendable that today, most of the faculty in the department posses the doctoral degree and is working with an aim of making the department research oriented. The department provides quality teaching, learning, research and consultancy in humanities and social sciences by creating, preserving, transmitting and utilizing knowledge.


In order to equip the students with corporate ambience, the department in collaboration with Infosys, Chennai conducts a campus connect programme on Business English. This method of teaching builds a rapport between the students and the company. The students are also trained to take up TOEFL and IELTS exams.

Science Club

The Science Club of Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College was initiated by Dr. A. Nagappan, Principal, in the year 2008. Since its inception, Science Club is actively involved in promoting scientific activities in our institution. It has been regularly conducting competitions (paper presentation, quiz, etc.), exhibitions, guest lectures, etc. to bring out the inherent talent & skills among students.


Virtual Lab

Virtual lab is a project initiated by Ministry of Human Resource Development. The project is aimed to provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. This would help the students in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation. Our Institution is recognized as a Creamy Layer Nodal Centre for implementing the above programme. We have introduced Virtual Labs in Physics and Chemistry in the Curriculum & Syllabus of the First year B. Tech. students.


Activity Based Learning (ABL)

ABL method is widely used in the classroom to make the Teaching-Learning environment lively and to enable all the students to participate in the process. This method enables the weak students to understand the concept easily and to join with other fellow students for better learning. Dr. J. Sethuraman, Senior Professor in Physics has prepared many models to explain the basic concepts in Science & Technology. The Video lectures on ABL, given Dr. J. Sethuraman is made available in YOUTUBE and it is receiving widespread response across the globe.
