Achievements of V.M.K.V.E.C during 2009 -2010.
7th July 2009, the birth day of our Hon’ble Chancellor, had a real beginning in the Academic as well as Research activities at V.M.K.V. Engineering College for the academic year 2009 -2010.
Academic Achievements
The highly professional staff at V.M.K.V .E.C left no stone unturned in sharing their expertise in the field of Engineering and Technology for the benefit of our students which resulted in 98% Results in the final semester B.E Exams conducted by our university.
A centre for excellence Embedded systems has been created by the department of Electronics &Communication Engineering.
Research Achievements:
V.M.K.V.E.C witnessed a lot of Seminars and Conferences on the latest developments in the field of Engineering & Technology
- The department of Bioinformatics and department of Bio medical Engineering jointly organized a National Conference on Biomedical Infomatics.Rs1.25 lakh was funded by DBT, Govt of India and ICMR, New Delhi, to the above National Conference. The conference was inaugurated by Dr.R.Bharathidhasan, Senior Cardiologist, Vinayaka Missions Hospital, and Salem. He also delivered an excellent lecture on cardiac Imaging.
- AICTE funded Rs1, 00,000/= for a three day National workshop on MAT LAB and its applications in Science & Engineering. The workshop was conducted by the department of mathematics & physics in collaboration with ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu and Hewlett and Packard.Dr.A.Shanmugasundram the Chancellor, Vinayaka Missions University, presided over the Inaugural function. More than 100 Participants from almost all over Tamil nadu participated in the workshop.
- Dr.A.Nagappan,Principal,V.M.K.V.E.C Dr.G.Sai Narayanan,Director,ICT Academy of Tamilnadu, Dr.K.Subramanian, Former Consultant in MATLAB,Banglaore, DrS.M.Mohan,SRMVASC ,Coimbatore,B.B Sudhindra, Prajwal Techno Solutions Pvt.ltd,Banglore, Er.S.Ramasamy,Pondicherry University and Prof.S.Ganesh Vaidyanathan,Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering ,Sri Perumbudur all acted as Resource persons to the three day Seminar.
The workshop aimed to create awareness of how MATLAB could be powerfully used in numerical schemes of Qualitative properies of solutions of Differential Equations and Algebra besides imparting basic MATLAB skills. Hands – on Training was also given to the participants.
The department of MCA conducted a national level Technical seminar cum symposium in July 2009. Around 150 Paricipants from various Engineering colleges across the country attended the programme.Dr.A.Nagappan ,Principal,V.M.K.V.E.C inaugurated the Symposium Dr.R.S.D.Wahida Banu,Prof & Head,Dept of ECE ,Government College of Engineering ,Salem – 11,delivered the keynote address.Dr.R.Baskaran,Professor,Anna University presented an anlysis for Human Behaviours.
VMKVEC hosted a District level children Science congress organized by Tamil nadu Science Forum. This attracted about 70 budding scientiste from various schools in and around Salem district.
Dr,R.Samson Ravindran, Prsident Tamil Nadu Science Forum delivered the presidential address. The worshipful Mayor Salem city Ms.Rekha Priyadhrshini was the chief guest. Dr.Shanmugam, Principal, Govt.Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College spoke on the importance of science in schools and colleges.Dr.A.Nagappan Principal, and V.M.K.V.E.C was the guest of honour.
Out of 70 Projects exhibited by the students, 7 were selected and they were given
Prizes.
ISTE Regional convention was held at VMKVEC for 2009 -2010.in which about 1000 delegates from all over India participated.
PATENT
Dr.A.Nagappan ,Principal,VMKVEC has filed a patent on “New and Efficient Patient Dependent Breast Density Normalisation Equipment “ which has been recognized by the Intellectual Property Rights Dept,Govt of India and have published in a journal.

There are almost 30 Ph.D Scholars heading and working in various disciplines at V.M.K.V Engineering College.
Many of the staff have attended conferences at the National / International levels.
National level Conferences have been conducted by the departments of Computer Science, Bio – Sciencs, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc.

IGNOU – Convergence Scheme
V.M.K.V.E.C is fostering an IGNOU Centre for Distance learning under Convergence Scheme. More than 250 Students took their exams in various disciplines in June 2010.
Placement and Training
The Placement & Training cell has been working round the year for Camps Interviews. During 2009 -2010,90% of the final year students have been placed in reputed companies like Honeywell Technologies Ltd,Sutherland Global Services, Octane Solutions Pvt,Ltd,Satya Info soft Pvt.Ltd,Microtek Pvt,Ltd,Mobile Services,Shri Ram Value services, to name only a few.
NCC
An NCC unit is functioning at V.M.K.V.E.C for a long time .There are about 52 eadets enrolled during 2009 -2010.19 cadets have passed ‘C’ certificate and the remaining 33 Cadets have passed ‘B ‘Certificate. One cadet has stood First in state level Drill competition.
NSS
There are four NSS units functioning at VMKV Engineering College. Out of 400 Voluntears, 200 Voluntears took part in a Ten Day Special Camp in February 2010.
The NSS units also conducted a Blood Donation camp.
Sport and Games
The Basket Ball team of V.M.K.V.E.C Scored Winners at the Inter Collegiate Tournaments of Vinayaka Missions University, besides scoring Runners up in Kho – Kho,Ball badminton (both Men and Women) , Chess etc.They also took part in South Zone and All India Inter University level meets at Kakatiya university ,Warangal, VIT University, Vellore and Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.
The V.M.K.V.E.C is yet to cross many such milestones in the years to come.
