The Department of Civil Engineering under VMKV
Engineering College was formed as an individual Branch/Department
during the academic year 20004-05, when the University was formed.
In its first year of creation 3 students were joined and afterwards
it increased to 12 in second year, with addition of lateral
entry students. Now they are in final year. At present the student
strength in third year is 20 and second year is 26.
In the current first year (2007- Batch) the strength is increased
remarkably to 140 and it will increase further in the next year
with the addition of lateral entry students.

Coming to the infrastructure development of our
department, Fluid mechanics and Strength of Materials lab were
available at the time of creation. Afterwards Survey lab was
formed in the year 2005 and Soil Engineering laboratory was
installed in 2006 and additional equipment was procured for
Strength of Materials lab in 2006. Now students of all years
are utilized the laboratory facilities very well for their practical
works.
Civil Engineering Association was formed during 2006 and a couple
of seminars were conducted to updating the student knowledge.
Every semester Industrial visit programs were conducted to gain
practical knowledge for the students. Survey camp was conducted
for third year students outside the college premises every year
during winter vocation to improve the practical knowledge of
the students. |

This Department has well qualified faculties.
In addition to UG Degree, PG Degree in the specialization of
Structures, Environmental and Irrigation and Water Resources
Engineering are also available in this Department. The faculties
of this department are permitted participate in workshops, conferences,
etc at various colleges to update their teaching knowledge.
Students are also having exposure to placement training and
attending interviews conducted by companies in the college and
at off campus. One of the final year students has got placement
in a Software company.
Regarding other activities of the department, consultancy works
are taken up for the construction works of this college, students
are participated in NCC and NSS in the college. |
